There are books called "Matrikel" listing the Jews in Southern Germany who had obtained a right of sojurn in various towns. Their numbers were limited to a quota, and new ones could only obtain the permit if an existing one left, or died. From those we have gathered the following information. I am feeling very incompetent at the moment, I do not know how to gather all this into a coherent page which will share the stuff already learned: We have Merzbach/Merzbacher also in Authenhausen and Burgpreppach, Baumberg / Bamberg From the Matrikeln I was sent a listing: 15 Scans of pages from the 1813 - 1861 "Juden Matrikel aus den mittel-Franken"
There just HAS to be a connection between the two tribes We have found a great Merzbacher connections web site at http://www.rijo.homepage.t-online.de/pdf/en_de_ju_sky40407.pdf
